Early Learning
Learning does begin in the womb as a response to stimuli from the mother and her surroundings. The messages conveyed by the mother are numerous. Her emotional responses to life in general affect the baby and his or her responses. If mother is afraid all the time then the baby is likely to respond with fear once born. If the mother is relaxed, comfortable in her world and confident in herself, then the beginning of baby’s new life will be a totally different experience. Learning from the parents is usually a life-long process. The intensity of this learning is great at times. At other times parental impact upon a person lessens. Yet early experiential learning, referred to as imprinting, usually creates an inescapable foundation for all future learning. With this basic knowledge and as parental awareness grows, teachers and parents have a greater responsibility to create a more positive impact upon society’s children. Over time, learning appears to compound itself through new assimilations of information.
